On Tuesday 25th April, six of our talented Year 9 students will be travelling to Loughborough University to take part in a nationwide engineering competition launched by The Young Enterprise organisation. Our students will be competing against other schools and will have to design and pitch a product.
All Year 9 students who were interested in this opportunity had to put their reasons for applying into a letter of application to their head of year. The applications were so strong that Ms Robinson found it too hard to choose only six. So, with the help of Mr Sutton in Design and Technology, the students took part in an in school challenge which resulted in “astronauts” being launched from the third floor of Soar Valley College! During this process, students were observed for their team work skills, ability to problem solve and their confidence in self presentation. A small group of Year 10 students who make up Mr Sutton’s Engineering club were able to support the Year 9’s through this challenge where they had to design a device to ensure the safe landing of our astronauts.
After much deliberation, the chosen six have been decided. Congratulations to….
We wish them lots of luck for the first stage of the competition at Loughborough University next month.( Back to News
